Wednesday 12th September 2018 saw crowds gather at Northwich War Memorial for the re-dedication service following recent renovation works. Members from Northwich Town Council & CW&C, representatives from the Royal British Legion, Korean War Veterans, 146 Squadron, Northwich and Vale Royal Rotary Clubs, Proffitts staff and children from Witton Church Walk CofE Primary school and Victoria Road Primary school all came to support this landmark occasion in our town’s history.
This ambitious project began in November 2014. It has been the only major refurbishment of the Cenotaph since it was first built in 1925, and those who conceived the idea for the restoration wanted to ensure that the Cenotaph would serve our town for at least another 90+ years. It was also envisaged that the project and its completion would be part of this town’s honouring of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War on November 11th.
Northwich Town Council would like to thank all of those involved in the project; the residents and local people, Witton Chuch Walk Primary School, funding bodies and contractors, Allen Lowe for his historical knowledge and anyone else who contributed to making this project a success.
